The Chicken Totem
The Chicken is the direct descendent of the Gallus, Gallus, the Wild Red Jungle Fowl of India. The have been used for the production of eggs and meat since the early 1930’s. They symbolize nourishment. Chickens also keep the insect population under control and provide fertilizer for farms and gardens all over the world. The Chicken is a very curious bird; always aware of their environment, they do not miss much. They symbolize knowledge, learning, reflection and observation. Chicken’s have a defined personal space that they guard and protect and do not like to be confined. They are tireless birds always on the move. They are the teachers of the bird kingdom. They have an innate ability to sense danger. They define the ability to remain individual, individual and unique when existing among large groups.
Chickens cannot fly and are thus land bound. They are very in touch with the Earths vibrations and nuances. The have a very high constant body temperature which remains at about 101 degrees. There hearts beat two-hundred and eighty to two-hundred and fifty times per minute. It takes twenty-four to twenty-six hours to lay an egg and it takes approximately twenty days for baby chicken to hatch. There are one-hundred and fifty different varieties of domestic chicken, and these come in a large variety of colors and patterns. Many of the more colorful in their species feathers and plumage where and are used for ceremonial costumes. Chickens were first domesticated over eigth-thousand years ago’ the Chicken was considered a sacred bird by many tribes and was a symbol of the Sun. Chicken eggs don’t only come in white they can also be brown, green, pink and even blue.
