Do Magick Spells Really Work?
Magick spells or “magic” spells are part and parcel to the practice of all Shamanistic religions and esoteric arts. Wiccans, Witches, Warlocks, Magicians, Voodoo Priests and Obeah Men – all use magick spells and spell casting to some degree.
Depending on the discipline, casting a magic spell can require some very specific magical articles, including wands, amulets, crystals and talismans. Historically there are White Magic Spells, Gray Magic Spells, and the more arcane Black Magic spells. Unlike general magical rituals, Magick Spells regardless of the Art being used by the spellcaster are designed to achieve specific outcomes. Therefore across magical practices there are Love Spells, Wealth Spells, and Healing Spells. There are also spells intended to attack your enemies, and those designed to protect the spell caster from them.
Belief in the effectiveness of Magick Spells is far more widespread then one might imagine. In fact belief in the occult, spirits, and all manners of Magick and the metaphysical is on the rise. A recent study found that 40% percent of Americans believe that ghosts and haunted houses are real. That number has almost doubled since 2000. In 2000 40% of those surveyed said they believed in demonic possession, today that number is 66%. The belief in the realm of Magick crosses all socioeconomic lines and all religions, although belief in the occult combined with a fear of it remains mostly among Christians. This despite that fact that most spells require the invocation of God, YHVH, or Jesus, Cat Yronwode a well known Hoodoo Spell Caster says, “If you can’t get along with Jesus, you can’t do hoodoo.” Hoodoo much like its Caribbean cousin Voodoo is a practice of magick spells and ritual magick passed down from African slaves, which combines the African belief system and its deities with Christianity.
Practitioners of Magick use Spells to effect change for themselves and their “clients”. They recognize the invocation of a divine power for the magic spell to work. Unlike traditional religions, most casters of Magick Spells do not place a moral judgment on Good (god) or Evil, (devil) but recognize that each must exist to achieve balance. Yet there is a kind of universal Karmic belief among spellcasters. There is an intrinsic “what goes around”, comes around quality to any magic spell, even those cast with the best of intentions. Those that use magic spells often caution that they do work, and they will achieve their attention, but not necessarily in the way that the one may expect or want. Think of the person who uses a wealth spell, and a week later inherits a large sum of money from the death of a beloved relative.
The rise in the belief in the effectiveness of Magick Spells seems to be following a trend in an increased belief in all manner of the paranormal and metaphysical. Some believe this is largely due to disenchantment in the Western World with traditional belief systems, and traditional authority.
Experts also believe that the Internet is another factor why belief in magic spells and the Occult is increasing throughout society in large ways and small. Before the Web someone who lived outside of a village with a resident Shaman or Witch in search of a Love Spell or a Healing Spell was pretty much out of luck. Now a Google search for “Magick Spells” yields thousands of results, and connection to an international community that shares his or her beliefs.
Do They Work?
Any caster of Magick spells will tell you sometimes they work, and sometimes they do not. A physician will tell you the same thing about any medication or therapy. And just as there are any number of reason why a given drug will relieve one person’s headache and not another’s, or worse cure some and cause horrible side effects in others, there are a multitude of factors that can influence the effectiveness of a given Magick Spell.
Factors that determine a Magic Spells Effectiveness Include:
The Experience of the Magician or Practitioner – As in the practice of anything the skills and experiences of the spell caster are critical
The Phase of the Moon – In many traditions the effectiveness of spells are linked to certain phases of the moon, with specific types of spells to be cast only during specific phases of the Moon
Quality and Authenticity of Materials and Supplies – Depending on the magic spell to be cast, herbs, crystals and any number of other magical materials are required. Again much like medications, the spells with the most authentic and powerful “active ingredients” will be the most effective
Belief in The Spell – In all things magical, belief is fundamental. If you do not believe in the power of the spell you cast or seek, it will never work for you.
The Will of the Universe – Magick Spells work, but they are not an exact science. It can take hours, days, or years – for the effect of a spell to manifest itself. This is all contingent upon the Will of the Universe.
