Finding Your Metaphysical Self

The science or study of physics concerns itself with physical reality. Metaphysics on the other hand is the study of that which exists beyond the physical; the spiritual, the supernatural, and the paranormal. Yet there are some who would say that on some quantum level, the distinction blurs. There it is metaphysics that is the true “unified theory” hypothesis, which sees the ebb and flow of metaphysical energies as the ultimate source of creation and the basis of all reality.

This One Source has many names, God, The Is, The Absolute, The Infinite Being, The Supreme Being, but no matter what you call it, it is something anyone can aspire to be a part of, and in doing so achieve a sense of spiritual and metaphysical awakening.  

Metaphysical awakening or finding your metaphysical self is related to the term self- actualization, which became popular in the 1960’s. The world had come into a great spiritual reawakening at that time. Great masses of people started to look for something greater than themselves -for higher values of love, peace and spiritual enlightenment.

While much of the fad movements and “religions” of the 60’s may have passed, the spirit never died out. In fact today more than ever people disenchanted with traditional religion, and traditional authority, are looking for something else. Many of them are finding it in the metaphysical, The Occult, or so-called or New Age or Modern Spiritualism.

Today there is almost a global shift towards spiritual awareness. Finding your metaphysical self is a way to be part of it. The first step to metaphysical awareness is to accept and understand that there are celestial forces at work that influence our terrestrial lives. Whether you choose to label that as a belief in “astrology” or not is up to you. Following the signs of the Zodiac is but one way to both understand and adjust our lives to the planetary influences, but it is not the only way.  The true path to metaphysical power is to become aware of The True Self. This is the basis of all metaphysical doctrines including Magick, Astrology, Numerology, Kundalini Yoga, Kabalah or any number of other esoteric practices. The constant key throughout is the more information you know about The Self, the better you can accept and direct these outer influential forces to find balance within your own life-force and fulfill your destiny.

Some refer to finding your metaphysical self as “Awakening The Third Eye”. The Third Eye encompasses the ability to “see” into realities beyond the physical plane. The Third Eye accounts for psychic phenomena such as ESP, Clairvoyance, Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming. According to experts in metaphysics and the paranormal there are many ways and rituals to “open” your Third Eye. However whichever pathway or technique you choose to open The Third Eye, it all starts with a belief in it very existence. Focusing on this belief in the Third Eye and its abilities, will allow you to embrace your metaphysical persona, and break free form the restrictions of ordinary perceptions such as Pure Logic. When you can begin to separate your metaphysical self from the mundane you will start be able to perceive “reality” on a far different level.

Some doctrines believe that a crystal or some other Talisman that has the ability to focus metaphysical energies such as a Bezoar Stone is needed to unlock the door to the metaphysical. In this philosophy the crystal or stone is placed on the forehead, over the area of the Chakra point of the “Third Eye”.  Your natural latent psychic ability will be stimulated by the crystal, and it in turn will invoke meditative thought patterns that will bring you in tune with the universe. The Crystal will serve as a kind of radio receiver, brining in the metaphysical waves of energy, and it will allow your Third Eye to accept and understand their meaning. Thus connected to the greater universe you will be receiving impressions, insights and visions, which will become clearer and easier to make use of as your personal metaphysical sensitivity increases.
